Imagine a doctor who really listens to you—you know, the human behind the lab coat.

Now imagine that doctor is also an internationally recognized medical educator and pioneer in clinical medical communications. Suspiciously humble and all-of-the-above, Alan is the Assistant Dean for Medical Education at VCU’s prestigious medical campus and is the creative force behind the MCV’s innovative Theater-Medicine Communications curriculum, which teaches students, residents, and faculty empathy skills using techniques of theater. He believes—and the research confirms—that empathetic communications have a clear link to better patient outcomes. As a member of The Frontier Project’s Advisory Board, he applies this integrative philosophy to the world of business, giving us unique insight as to how we can prescribe clients with the best kind of medicine: long-term, creative, holistic business solutions.
